Esbjerg Hospital and A.P. Møller-Mærsk has just entered into a new agreement which implies that medical assistance from Radio Medical will in future include all of Mærsk's own ships. Until now, Radio Medical has only provided service to Maersk ships under the Danish flag, writes YudskeVestkysten.
Radio Medical Danmark is a 24-hour medical service at Esbjerg Hospital, which since 1995 has ensured that trained medical staff on Danish-registered ships can get advice from experienced doctors. They can be guided to local treatment of less serious problems or get an assessment of whether there is a need to search for the nearest port or perhaps even an evacuation by helicopter.
The agreement with Radio Medical is currently valid until the end of 2026 and means that the number of inquiries in isolation will increase by a good 50 percent compared to the current level. The seven experienced doctors, who currently part of the Radio Medical team at Esbjerg Hospital, will replace each other in 24-hour shifts, but it is not yet completely clear whether the new agreement will result in more doctors being employed in the unit.
