The Danish energy company Ørsted - previously known as Dong Energy - has found its new CEO.

From the turn of the year, Mads Nipper will start as the company's new CEO. Ørsted announced this in a statement to the stock exchange.

Mads Nipper comes from a position as CEO at Grundfos, which is known for producing pumps. Before Mads Nipper became CEO of Grundfos in 2014, he held several senior positions at Lego.

The appointment of Mads Nipper comes after the current CEO of Ørsted, Henrik Poulsen, previously announced his desire to resign from the position.

The Ørsted board of directors is very pleased to be able to present Mads Nipper as Henrik Poulsen's replacement. This is stated by Chairman of the Board Thomas Thune Andersen.

- With Mads Nipper's strong focus on sustainability and the green agenda, strong personal leadership, extensive management experience and excellent results from leading global companies, the Board is convinced that he is the right person to lead Ørsted in the next phase of our exciting journey, says Thomas Thune Andersen in the press release.

In Denmark, Ørsted is among the larger companies with over 6,000 employees.

Leader in the world

The company's business is built on the development and operation of wind farms. The company is a world leader in renewable energy production.

According to Mads Nipper, Ørsted is in a unique position to make a difference in the fight against climate change.

- I am very much looking forward to becoming part of the Ørsted team and to continuing Ørsted's successful journey towards becoming one of the future global leaders in renewable energy, says Mads Nipper in the press release.

Years ago, Ørsted was a utility company owned by the Danish state. But in 2016, it was listed on the stock exchange and is today part of the leading Danish stock index, C25.

The Danish state is still the main shareholder in Ørsted.
