First agreements signed
Norlys launches product that gives more companies the opportunity to support green energy
A new pool product from Norlys allows companies to cover their energy consumption with newly installed solar and wind energy. The first agreement has now been signed and will purchase power from energy parks that are expected to be commissioned in 2027. The energy and telecommunications group writes in a press release.
The first power purchase agreements from Norlys, known as cPPA (Corporate Power Purchase Agreement), have been signed. The agreements ensure the construction of new wind and solar energy facilities with a total capacity of 124.5 MW. The expected annual production for the two parks is 252 GWh, of which around a fifth will be purchased from the power purchase agreements. This is the first time in Denmark that a pooled product guarantees the installation of both solar and wind energy.
- If we are to succeed in the green transition, it is crucial that companies support it, and here the cPPAs are an important tool because they help increase demand for renewable energy - especially when, as here, it means that new wind turbines and solar cells are being built in Denmark. These are the first agreements that we will build on, and we already have several new projects in the pipeline, says Mads Brøgger, director of Norlys' energy business.
Sun and wind provide energy security
Among the companies that have entered into agreements are DS Gruppen and Arbejdernes Landsbank. Both have secured energy supply from the upcoming energy parks for a ten-year period. The parks will be established by Eurowind Energy, of which Norlys is a co-owner. The combination of solar and wind energy means that customers' consumption is better covered all year round, as wind dominates in the winter months, while the sun produces more energy in the summer.
- At the beginning and end of the year, it is mainly the wind that covers consumption, while in the summer it is mainly the sun. In this way, renewable energy is produced when the companies use it, says Mads Brøgger.
As a result of the agreement, 11 wind turbines with a total capacity of 49.5 MW will be built in Ulkær Mose near Ikast, as well as 135 hectares of solar cells on Handest Hede near Hobro with a capacity of 75 MW.
