Siemens Gamesa is implementing its strategy to create profitability in the wind turbine business by focusing on its core business. Therefore, it has entered into an agreement with ABB to sell Gamesa Electric, a designer and manufacturer of converters, inverters and control cabinets for the wind, solar and energy storage industries. This is stated by Siemens Energy, the parent company of Siemens Gamesa, in a press release.

The agreement includes the transfer of approximately 400 employees, two production facilities in Spain and additional assets in the USA, China, India and Australia. The generator business in Gamesa Electric is not part of the transaction and will remain with Siemens Gamesa.

- Our primary goal for Siemens Gamesa is to achieve profitability, which requires a dedicated focus on our core business. The decision to produce in-house or buy from outside is a constant consideration for us, and in this case, Gamesa Electric will be better positioned to thrive under ABB's leadership. However, through this cooperation agreement, we continue to secure essential capabilities. I am pleased that we have found a solution for our nearly 400 employees that gives them greater confidence and security for the future, says Vinod Philip, Executive Vice President for Wind Power at Siemens Energy.

As part of the transaction, Siemens Gamesa and ABB have entered into a long-term cooperation agreement, which entails ABB supplying power electronics for Siemens Gamesa's turbines both onshore and offshore.

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2025, subject to approval by the relevant authorities.
