22-årig dansk svejser med konkurrenceerfaring går efter guld på hjemmebane
One of Denmark's most talented young welders, 22-year-old Jakob Østergaard Nielsen from Sjølund – a small town south of Kolding in southern Jutland – will represent Denmark at EuroSkills 2025. The European championship for young skilled workers brings together participants from all over Europe, competing in a wide range of trades. This is reported by JV.dk.
Jakob is an apprentice blacksmith and was named Denmark's best welder at the Danish Skills Championship in 2023. This secured him a place on the Danish Skills national team and later a ticket to the WorldSkills World Championship in Lyon, where he achieved 14th place out of 42 participants in welding.
- We became so much smarter after WorldSkills in Lyon – especially about how and what you get points for in the competition. It enables me to prioritize even better for EuroSkills. It will be a hectic year with lots of training, and I am really looking forward to it, says Jakob Østergaard Nielsen, who is expected to receive his journeyman's certificate in August.
EuroSkills 2025 will be held at the MCH Messecenter Herning from 9–13 September and will be the first time the competition has taken place in Denmark. In total, over 600 young people from 32 countries will participate in 38 different subjects. Denmark will be fielding 43 participants.
