Bornholm startup wants to monitor the marine environment with new technology

Tech startup Sensemakers from Nexø has developed a floating vessel that can monitor the marine environment. The vessel, called Sally, is designed to measure water quality and film the seabed, and the company has ambitions to spread the technology internationally. This is reported by TV2 Bornholm.

- We want to do something that makes us smarter about marine nature. The sea looks beautiful on a sunny day, but we see in the news that it is not always like that below the surface. The sea is not in the same condition everywhere, and we would like to have more knowledge about biodiversity, fish, plants and water quality. So we thought that we must be able to create a smart solution for that, says CEO. CEO of Sensemakers Søren Femmer Jensen.

Sally is an unmanned surface vessel (USV) that can measure parameters such as salinity, oxygen levels and bacterial abundance, while also scanning the seabed. The sensor boat has a range of 40 kilometers and can be controlled via the internet. The battery has an operating time of 12 hours between charges.

The design behind Sally comes from Jacob Brömauer, who previously worked as a designer at Porsche. He moved from Germany to Bornholm three years ago and has since been part of Sensemakers.

- I enjoy working with this startup. It is very different from the large company I come from. Here I decide everything with my small group of colleagues. We are making a product that is needed, and I can use my knowledge from my previous job, says Jacob Brömauer.
