Hydrogen industry after agreement on hydrogen pipeline: Now we have to get started
On Thursday, a majority in the Danish Parliament adopted an agreement to run a hydrogen pipeline from Esbjerg to the German border in 2030. With the agreement, Energinet will receive a loan of 7.4 billion DKK, which must be repaid, to get the project off the ground. The state will also provide a subsidy of 8.3 billion DKK in operating subsidies, which will fall over 30 years.
The agreement is highly praised by the Hydrogen Industry, an interest group for hydrogen and Power-to-X stakeholders.
. It is a good and important day. For the green transition and for the industry, but also for Denmark as a whole. Because it is an important strategic decision that will have positive consequences for many years to come. Therefore, I would also like to thank the Socialist People's Party, the Conservative People's Party, the Unity List, the Radical Left, the Alternative, and the government for their broad support for the agreement. This provides stability and peace of mind in the work that we in the industry are now about to begin. We would like to acknowledge the clear political signal, says Director of the Hydrogen Industry, Tejs Laustsen Jensen, in a comment.
According to the Hydrogen Industry, the agreement paves the way for Denmark to take on a leading role as a producer of green hydrogen, which will be noticed in Europe. However, this requires that the agreement be put into action.
- From tomorrow, it is important to get started quickly, and that all good forces work closely together so that the first phase of the pipe can be completed by the central deadline in 2030, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen
Remember the rest of the Danish Hydrogen Backbone
The agreement that the Danish Parliament adopted on Thursday only paves the way for the so-called seven-figure, which is a connection from Esbjerg to the border via Vejen. However, this is only the first stage in the expansion of the Danish Hydrogen Backbone, which is a larger plan for Danish hydrogen infrastructure, and no year has been set for how they will be realized, but there should be, says the Hydrogen Industry.
- In the industry, we are more than ready to do our part. At the same time, it is important that we remember the next phases and make firm plans for the next phases of the expansion of the infrastructure, including to Fredericia, as soon as possible, says Tejs Laustsen Jensen.
