"En af Danmarks førende energikommuner" tilslutter sig grønt forslag

A new proposal will ensure that municipalities that produce renewable energy receive financial compensation through a share of the electricity tax. Lolland Municipality is now joining the initiative, which already has broad support. This is stated by Business Region MidtVest in a press release.

- When the government chooses to slow down the pace of green expansion, the responsibility falls even more on the municipalities. But we cannot undertake the task alone - we need better financial frameworks if we are to ensure progress, says Mayor of Lolland Municipality Holger Schou Rasmussen (A).  

The proposal means that 4 øre per kWh of green electricity is reserved for municipal coffers, a model inspired by Norway. Holger Schou Rasmussen believes that the issue is not only about economics, but also about fairness.  

- This is not just about money - it is about fairness. If we as municipalities are to lay the groundwork for the country's green future, we must also feel the benefits, he notes.  

At Business Region MidtVest, which is behind the initiative, Lolland's support is seen as a strong signal to the government.  

- Lolland Municipality has been one of Denmark's leading energy municipalities for years. When they now support the development contribution, it sends a strong signal to the government: If the green transition is to succeed, the municipalities must have better frameworks, says Mayor of Herning Dorte West (V), who is chairman of Business Region MidtVest.  

With Lolland's support, the municipal alliance behind the proposal is growing, which now has the support of 19 mayors and a regional council chairman.  

- If we are to continue to be a frontrunner in the green transition, it requires that the municipalities are given the right tools to ensure development. Green energy is not only a necessity for the climate and our common security, but also an opportunity for growth, welfare and strong local communities, says Nicolai Houmark Lauridsen, head of the secretariat of Business Region MidtVest.  

In addition to Lolland Municipality, the following municipalities and the North Jutland Region support the proposal:  
Herning, Struer, Skive, Ikast-Brande, Lemvig, Holstebro, Ringkøbing-Skjern, Vesthimmerland, Frederikshavn, Aalborg, Brønderslev, Hjørring, Jammerbugt, Læsø, Mariagerfjord, Morsø, Rebild and Thisted.
