A narrow majority in Ringkøbing-Skjern City Council has decided to give 2.6 million kroner in operating subsidies to Stauning Airport. This will allow it to continue to function as an airport – and perhaps play a role in the green transition. This is reported by Dagbladet Ringkøbing Skjern.
During the city council debate, Hans-Christian Blichfeldt of the Liberal Party pointed out that Stauning can be used as a heliport for future offshore wind farms in the North Sea.
– Hvide Sande Harbour must be ready to become a service port for offshore wind turbines, and it is crucial that we can offer helicopter service. That is why Stauning Airport must be kept in operation. The city council is shooting itself in the foot by closing the airport, he said, referring to the fact that a planned heliport in Hvide Sande was previously slowed down by local protests.
The Liberal Party and the Social Democrats voted in favor of the subsidy, while other parties voted against or proposed downgrading the airport to an airfield. However, a majority still hopes for a sale – a new inquiry from a potential buyer has just been received by the mayor.
