Vestas has entered into a permanent agreement with energy company Vattenfall for the delivery of 68 offshore wind turbines for Nordlicht 1, which will be Germany's largest offshore wind farm. The order includes the turbine type V236-15.0 MW and amounts to a total of 1,020 MW with a grid connection capacity of 980 MW. Vestas writes in a press release.
The agreement includes installation and commissioning of the turbines as well as a five-year service and warranty period followed by a 25-year operating agreement.

Nordlicht 1 will be built in the German part of the North Sea approximately 85 km north of the island of Borkum. The project is planned to be launched in 2026, and the wind turbines are expected to be installed in 2027. The offshore wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2028.
According to Vattenfall, parts of the turbine towers will be made of steel with a reduced CO2 footprint. The production takes place exclusively with recycled steel melted with wind energy, which according to the companies reduces the carbon footprint by up to 66 percent. compared to conventional steelmaking.

In addition to Nordlicht 1, Vestas secured eight onshore orders in Germany from wpd GmbH in the first quarter of the year. The total orders amount to 154 MW and include a number of different turbine types for projects in several German states.

Vestas has also landed a new order in the USA. The American energy group Clearway Energy Group has ordered turbines with a total capacity of 172 MW for the Mount Storm Phase II project in West Virginia. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, and commissioning is expected to take place in the third quarter of the same year.
