Bornholm will set the stage for a major political meeting on 28-29 April, when foreign ministers and other representatives from the five Nordic and three Baltic countries will gather as part of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation. This is reported by TV 2/Bornholm.
The meeting is planned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is expected to include participants from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The specific agenda and the meeting locations on the island have not yet been announced. As is tradition, the meeting will conclude with a joint statement, which, according to the media, is expected to be about security and energy cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.
- A location is chosen that is relevant in relation to the fact that it is precisely around the Baltic Sea that it takes place. And if it has been decided that Denmark is the host country, it is very natural to choose Bornholm, which is located in the Baltic Sea, as geographically quite central to the cooperation that exists in the Baltic Sea,
says Mayor Jacob Trøst, who is the mayor of Bornholm Regional Municipality.
With Denmark as the host of this year's meeting, according to TV 2/Bornholm, extensive preparations are already underway - also with regard to security, which is expected to be an extensive police task. The representatives will arrive as planned on the evening of April 28, and the meeting will span two days with activities in several places on the island.
